I am the maternal Nanny of Bethany (see Bethany's Page), a six year old Irish Dancing fanatic, whom I help and support in every way I can with her ID.
I am the maternal Nanny of Bethany (see Bethany's Page), a six year old Irish Dancing fanatic, whom I help and support in every way I can with her ID.- What Irish things do I play, dance, say, sing or other:
- I have no other connection with Ireland at all, except that I did go there for a holiday, with my daughter Gemma (Bethany's mum) back in 1993, and before our house was taken over by ID.....lol.....I am going to Ireland again this summer for a holiday, this time with Gemma, her husband and of course, Bethany. I expect we will be searching out ID and things related thereto.

- Irish Dancing music, especially Dean Crouch, Take That (I know, very sad for an OAP)......lol.....James Blunt, Katie Melua, John Barrowman (he is fab live.....)

- I do not dance, but if only I were younger, and fitter I would give Bethany a run for her money, as they say............lol.....
- How many years have you been Irish dancing?
- Bethany has been dancing for 18 months, and has reached Open in all of her light dances. She also holds three U6 Championships, McGahan Lees, Kinsella & Solent. Bethany is now working on improving her heavies, and getting them out of Beginners.
- Favourite Irish dance Show
- Have seen Riverdance twice and will be going to see Lord of the Dance November next year - yes it is a very long wait - but I have most of the famous ID shows on DVD. Michael Flatley is still the tops.......that is, after Ian Boyd TCRG & ADCRG in training, of course.....lol.... WE ARE GOING TO IRELAND FOR OUR HOLIDAY IN AUGUST AND HAVE JUST BOOKED TO SEE RIVERDANCE IN DUBLIN. We are looking forward to seeing it, where it came from.

well the feis system is pretty similar in mainland europe. Its just that we dont ve the open grade level anymore. if u won (or qualified to move up) in intermediate then u can do the championships. so open grade dances = championships over here. u dont particularly ve to win in open anymore.
n moreover here in ME the best 3 can only move up when there r at least 11 dancers. thats the same 4 each level. when there r between 6 n 10 dancers, the first 2 move up. less than 6 then nobody moves up.
thats quite a lot of classes that bethany takes!! did she do so many classes from the very beginning. is that usual in UK 2 ve weekly private classes?? I mean, do many take them?
I didnt know that there arent really heavy competitions 4 younger kids. I ve no idea how that works over here, as I ve no kids in my class. but I know that a championship here consists of a softshoe, a hardshoe and a set dance (in hardshoe as well). so what does beth dance in her championship??
but u r so rite about kids. my cousins seem like they never lose any energy. I was totally exhausted by the end of the day n my cousins still stayed up till 3am with their friends (2 of them stayed at their place after the party) but I was sleeping by midnight!!!
with 'craic' I just meant fun. tho it was exhausting the party was great fun!!! I love my lil cousins like u do bethany. I ve been with them since the day they were born n besides many other things that we did together, I ve organized all their party since then. all their friends know me n they like to show off with me as their 'big' older cousins (who has a car to drive to cinema n stuff) :P

Congratulations again to Bethany, she did so well. She is such a beautiful little dancer. I hope she enjoyed the feis, and has been offered nice presents for her birthday :)
Well, I am very happy, I got : 1st primary hornpipe, 1st intermediate slip jig, 2nd inter treble jig, 2nd inter light jig, 2nd inter single jig, 7th inter reel . I am delighted with those results :)
I stayed to watch the championships in the afternoon, the dancers were so amazing. The standard is much much much higher than in Mainland Europe. It was very impressive !!

I was quite busy over the we, hence I didnt ve a lot of time for diddlyi.
I was organising my little cousins summer party on sat. that was a craic!!! :D but I was dead by the end of the day, in contrast 2 the kids :P
thx for the info on beth. she did unbelievably well!!! I was wondering... what is the difference between the championship and open grade dances. I know championships, we ve them as well.... but Im not quite sure what u mean with open grade dances... can u explain that 2 me??
I was surprised 2 hear that beth has 3 dance classes a week!!!! thats quite a lot.
I can imagine that she must be so full of energy.... her plan of last week sounds very tiring to me :P I think Im really getting old^^
