Just realised I can reply here. I'm originally from a Liverpool Irish family. The tradition was always there in the background as kids. (Even if only as LPs of the Dubliners, The Irish Rovers or other "popular" "folk". Or as "Rebel Songs" sung by one or more Uncles).

I play loads of instruments really badly. I can just about keep up as an accompanyist on Mandola or Bouzouki, but I've never dared play along at a "seissun" with any melody stuff on my whistle or mandolin. Though I'm trying to build up a repertoire of "classic" tunes at home. Having the Internet is such a great resource for learning all things Irish!

Over to you.... Maam ;-) Or anyone else who happens to call...
