Hometown: Ghent

About me: I was born and I still live in the most beautiful city of Belgium, Ghent. My appartment is very close to the university and the abbey of Sint Peter.
I work as an archivist for the ministery of Brussels-Capital Region. In my spare time I try to play Irish music on my tin whistle and the Uilleann Pipes.
I like reading a good book or poetry and I enjoy a good glass of single malt whisky.
I regularly visit the Irish pub in Ghent and once a year you can find me in Ireland on vacation.

Music/Singing School/Group: Uilleann Pipes, taught by Henk Coudenys

Favorite Music: Indochine, Levellers, Smashing Pumpkins, Belly, Nirvana, Red Hot Chili Peppers...still a rock addict
But I also enjoy Irish traditional music like the Bothy Band, Danu, Flook, Planxty.
Awesome pipers are: Mick O'Brien, Paddy Keenan, Davy Spillane and Michael McGoldrick.

Dancing School / Group: Redmond School / Vlaams Caledonische Society

Dancing Level: Beginner / Primary

How many years have you been Irish dancing?: 2

Favourite Irish dance Show: Never seen an Irish dance show live but I would go for Riverdance with Jean Butler and Colin Dunne. Although the Irish Set Dance group from Glasgow also perform a good show.

I love this about Irish Dancing:: It feels like poetry in motion and makes me happy

At 9:38am on September 29th, 2008, Anita Koorn said…: Laat jij je tegenhouden door griep? Watje ;-) Ik ben zelfs een keer door Catherine naar huis gestuurd toen ik kwam dansen met een bijna longontsteking, dat vond ze iets te veel van het goede, haha!
Volgende keer dan maar weer? Dat wordt dan pas in november, want me die in oktober zit ik in Wenen.

At 10:23am on July 30th, 2008, Jolien said…: Hey. Gaaf zeg, dat je naar de Oireachtas gaat. Ik ben druk bezig met leren autorijden, en ik hoop tegen die tijd wel mijn rijbewijs te hebben. Dan kom ik misschien wel een heel weekend. Volgende week eindelijk uitslag of ik weer mag gaan dansen. Wanneer is het eigenlijk Redmond feis? Want ik heb ieder weekend wel iets in oktober, en ik vrees erg voor weekend van 25 en 26 oktober eigenlijk. Want dan moet ik vrijdags voor een bruiloft naar Zwolle, wat een enorm eind weg is. Maar ik wil nu eindelijk wel eens feis doen:P

Gaat 't 'n beetje met die Uilleann Pipes? Geen simpel instrument, man.
Naar Ooidonk kan ik misschien wel geraken (zoooo'n drukke agenda ...) maar Alden Biesen enkel voor de Highland competitie op zaterdag. Zondag hebben we een 50-jarig huwelijksjubileum - neen, niet dat van mij, jôh :-P ... van m'n schoonouders.

Heb je toevallig al iets gehoord van repeteren voor Ooidonk? Ik doe niet mee in Destelbergen, maar het gaat nu zo goed, dat voor 90 procent zeker ik mee doe in Ooidonk. MIsschien maar 2 nummers per show, maar ik ben er iig weer bij.

Ben voorzichtig al wat bezig om weer dansjes in mn hoofd te krijgen, het lukt aardig, maar toch mis ik nog wel dingen.

Hoe gaat het daar??

A.S. zondag vertrekken we naar Kreta, 3 weken in de zon. Heerlijk. Ik durf stellig te beweren dat het weer daar beter is dan hier in Nederland: ik zie nu al 3 weken niets anders dan regen, haha.

Munchen was echt te gek. Erg warm, 25+, maar leuk. De vloer voelde erg plakkerig, dus vermoeiend. Ik ben 6e geworden in de beg. reel (van 20) en 7e in beg, hornpipe (van 15). Verder een Highly recommended in de int. reel (van 15). Ik ben dus best trots.
Naast dansen heb ik lekker gewinkeld, de zoo bezocht en lekker gegeten.

Ik heb geen emailadressen van de volwassenen, ik zit niet bij ze in de les; naast wedstrijden zie ik ze niet zo veel.

Ik herken het willen blijven dansen, morgen begint mij summerclass Ballet (ik moet toch lenig blijven). Nu even rust van Iers, en dan weer oefenen. Ik ben er achter gekomen dat zwembaden zich goed lenen om overs etc. in te oefenen.
