I am a ...
Dancer
About me
Adult dancer and dance mom of over 12 years. Daughter is taking a break from competitive dance to attend college. I love Irish trad music, helping to organize dance events. I manage several websites offering Irish dance gifts, through which I enjoy promoting the original work of artists and craftspeople.
What Irish things do I play, dance, say, sing or other:
Competitive adult dancer of 8+ years; play the bodhran for fun, sell Irish dance gifts on the web.
How many years have you been playing/singing?
8+ Years
Favorite Music
Chieftains, Beoga (love these lads who play at our feiseanna!), Albannach (Scottish tribal music)...any kind of crazy Celtic fiddle music. Accordion music in small doses.
Dancing School / Group
McBride - California
Dancing Level
Novice/Adult
How many years have you been Irish dancing?
8+
Favourite Irish dance Show
The original classic Riverdance
I love this about Irish Dancing:
Friendships over the years & the years of dancing/traveling with my daughter.
I love this about Irish Tradition:
Where else can a grown woman dance in public with her teenage daughter and get a medal for it?

I agree - that is a good idea. That is definitely something we'd like to ultimately include here. Hopefully one day we will! :)
Last year one of our members, Sarah Churchill, did some really cool journal posts about the origin of the celtic costume. There are a few pictures included in the posts ... I'll list the links to them below in case you're interested:

Hi Cathi! We have a great thing going with Triskelt and Feis America, and I know that you are going to love the first issue. My background is in writing, marketing, editing, business development and strategic planning. I am 3rd generation Irish American and both my daughters dance in Connecticut for Maura Gray of the Gray-Gillan-Owens School of ID. I started FA because I was disappointed in the options for Irish dancers with regard to magazines - my girls are both great lovers of books. 18 months later, here I am, with a great creative team and a hugely supportive audience across North America - of all ages! Thanks for your support and keep feising!

Dear Kathi, How nice to be able to chat this way...............I take your point and will be very happy to put a picture of the most important member of our family, Buffy.......lol............on my page, but it will have to wait until tomorrow unfortunately as I bought a new laptop today and Gem is still in the process of setting it up for me. I then have to work out how to use it as it has vista on it and is quite different. Glad you like my page and I am very happy to accept you invitation to be a friend..........check out who the member of the month is (look on the Today page to find out).....lol.....Love NA xxxxx PS. Buffy now wants her own page.................but she does not get all she wants............

hey kathi,
competing sounds pretty difficult in the US. here in mainland europe competing is for all the same, regardless age. cant u compete then in solo dances, just like heavy jig, slip jig or reel?? only in set dances??
tho the thing with parents n kids together is really cool. never heard of that before! congrats to ur first place!!
r there summer camps in america as well? cos we ve loads over here in summer time!!
