This a great tribute to who was a great person. I had the pleasure of meeting Eithne on many occasions while performing in Riverdance and, as is written in many papers and tributes, she was truly a great person who was always smiling and happy... ...

Today's dance is a long way from the traditional, instanced by the clamour at times to get ID Olympic status. In no way would a traditionalist talk in terms of "sexy" or see dance as an extension to a gym work-out. Excuse me - it's an age thing!!

A tribute for Eithne

#Among the passengers on the missing Air France Airbus A330 flying from Rio de Janeiro to Paris was Irish Dance star Eithne Walls (originally incorrectly listed as Eithne Wallis) from Ballygowan, County Down, Ireland.

Eithne with her friends Aisling Butler from Roscrea in County Tipperary and Jane Deasy from Dublin, all in their 20s, had all tudied and received their degrees to be doctors, were returning from holiday in Brazil. A qualified eye doctor, Eithne studied for six years at Trinity Col… Continue

Hi Myles,

Your tribute to Eithne was lovely. I didn't know her but I can't help but feel gutted by the loss of her and her friends along with the rest of the people on the flight. Thank you for posting that for us all.

Hi Myles,
Thanks for your historic discussion of ID and the picture of the Derry feis. I hope that someday ID will return to the pure, simple form that it use to be. Irish dance is a beautiful form of dance and it doesn't need all of the glamour and glitz to make it beautiful. I was at Worlds in Philadelphia a couple of weeks ago. There was some incredible dancing and choreography there, but some of the wigs being worn were so over powering that I was distracted by the hair bouncing around and not watching the feet. Take care.

Hi Myles,
I love your old photo of the Sweeney School and the historical perspective that you have of ID. What years was the Sweeney School in operation? You must have seen many changes in Irish dance over the years-some good and some bad. I have been following ID since the mid 1980s (before the time of Riverdance) watching competitions at a local Celtic festival every year and in even that time span I have noticed many changes. I would love to hear your perspective on how ID has changed over the years. Are there other members of your family involved in ID? Have a good weekend! John

Hi Myles, thanks for adding me as a friend. I see that you are a fan. Do you play any instruments or have you ever tried Irish dance?
