In the US adult competitions only go to prizewinner, but if your teacher approves, you can switch to the "over 20 -somethings". I feel that I am too old to do that, but I enjoy competing where I am.

I'm an adult dancer too and I love it-I think it is possible to learn at any age and I would still love to compete and one day end up in open champs :) I think it the closest human thing to flying too ;) I wish adult solo step classes were a bit m...

About me
I did not learn Irish dancing until I was an adult. I love to go to feiseanna and watch dancers of all ages. Today's prelims and opens are doing such challenging steps; they are wonderful to watch.
What Irish things do I play, dance, say, sing or other:
I just dance.

RNE's of course!
I enjoy volunteering with a class of exceptional dancers. In my school I am one of the "senior dancers" (polite way to say I am old) but I love to dance and I love watching dancers of all levels-all ages. In Ireland, most adults do set dancing, but in America they also do figures and stepdancing. Adult dancers are also included in feiseanna, though the levels and dance requirements are different from younger dancers.

Do Adults Do Irish Dancing?

In America, yes they do. They don't just do ceili and set dancing; they also do stepdancing.

When I started dancing, I really thought I was going to do ceili, but my school also offered stepdancing, so I took both classes. I had a 150-mile round trip, so I figured I should make it worth my while. I never thought that I would wind up competing in Irish dancing. I thought it would be a nice fun, social, thing. Which it is, but competition can also be fun.

Many of the adults I have danced with ov… Continue

I would like to go to the Culkin Feis, but couldn't make it this year. It does have an excellent selection of adult competitions, all leveled, which is nice.

Yes, I do a few feiseanna, but I compete as an adult. Sometimes the competition is good, lots of dancers, but sometimes not : ( Last year in Raleigh there was a former champion adult and he really spiced up the competition!
