hope mackie isn't too sick and recovers soon too. both horse and rider need to get healthy. amanda is getting better and she got through a full day of school. she just needs to catch up with the homework. at work i have been mostly writing papers. after we finish a research project we always need to publish the results in a scientific journal. it's a long process trying to get your thoughts down on paper in a clear way and then going through the process of getting the paper reviewed by other scientists and then revising it. what subjects are you taking in school? are you more of a language arts or science/math person?
When you said you jumped a huge vertical how high was it? have you ever had any bad falls? it would be scary to me. When you do a show how is the judging done? is it based on technique, how high you jump, how long it takes.....? hope you feel better today and mackie too! John

Sorry you are sick. hope you get better soon. maybe you have been riding out in the rain too much :) amanda, our daughter, has been sick too and missed 2 days of school. she reluctantly went back to school today. my work email is
tuttle@ucar.edu. it would be great if your science teacher were able to use some of the materials in the classroom or even to learn more herself. Maybe this picture of beamer, our 5 year old sheltie, will cheer you up a bit.

hey, i have some info you can pass on to your science teacher if you don't mind. while our lab does a lot of science research, an important part of our work is in educational outreach. we have a group here that develops interactive education modules that can be downloaded and used in classrooms. many of the modules are at the college level, but there are also several for the middle and high school level. in particular the "hurricane strike" module is suppose to be good for middle school. your teacher might find some of the modules useful for her classroom. they can be downloaded from
www.comet.ucar.edu and then click on "module list". I think you have to register before you can download anything. your teacher is welcome to contact me if she wants too. i will post my work email address to you in a private post. thanks a lot jenn. have a great day!
p.s. were you able to ride mackie today?

That school you want to go to looks great. it would be a perfect match for you and would help you in your goal to be a vet. given your enthusiasm and love of animals i have no doubt that you will be successful in reaching your goal.
I went to indiana university for my undergrad work and grad school was at Wisconsin. i studied physics and atmospheric sciences, after school i took a job as a scientist at the national center for atmospheric research (www.ncar.ucar.edu)which is where i still work. ncar has about 1000 employees and we do research in all areas of the atmosphere. i love it here and love living in colorado.
do you have lots of other kinds of animals? is your family involved in agriculture? i went to my ceili dance class tonight and thursday night is solo class. we are working on some dances for a show we have to do on friday. how often do you go to dance? what is your favorite dance? hope you have good weather for your ride tomorrow, but it may still be kind of wet.

thanks so much for sharing your videos. it's great to see the pictures of mackie-he is a beautiful horse. it does look wet, but i can understand your excitement in wanting to try out your new horse. i think it is good that you and mackie get to know each other better before doing any shows. my horse's name was susie and she was a 15 1/2 hand palomino mare. i was never really sure of her breed-she was a pretty inexpensive horse and definitely not of show quality. she probably had some thoroughbred in her-i grew up in kentucky which is where a lot of the thoroughbreds are raised. i didn't care-she was a great friend to me while growing up.
don't worry about being judged for your dance or anything else on diddlyi. it's a small welcoming group with lots of nice people. we all share a common interest in Id and come from many different abilities. paul and rebecca (the founders and moderators of diddlyi) do a great job of keeping diddlyi friendly and they love interacting with other members. so just jump in and don't hesitate contacting other members.
you said you go to an agriculture school. is it part of the public school system with a focus in agricultural areas? do you have agriculture facilities right at school? it's great that focus schools are provided for those with particular interests.
Have a fun week at school. keep us informed how mackie is doing.

I love that name-mack attack! do you have to board him somewhere or are you able to keep him at your house? i was able to keep my horse at our house. it was nice to just go out the door and ride her or do whatever. i had always wanted a horse and many times my father said no. finally he said i could have a horse if i built a stable for the horse. so i built a stable and i got my horse. that was many years ago and i haven't had a horse since. i would love to have one here. there are so many nice places to go riding in the mountains around here.
that's great that you want to be a vet. it will require a lot of hard work on your part, but will be very rewarding. if you like to read i would recommend a series of books written by james herriot. he was a vet who worked in rural england during world war 2 and afterwards. he wrote 4 books about his experiences as a vet- very humorous, heart warming books. The first book is called "all creatures great and small" you might enjoy them. enjoy the rest of your weekend-hope it dries out! John

Hey jenn.

Novice in one year, that's great! I can understand having to choose between irish dance or horses. they are both time consuming hobbies. how many horses do you have? what kind are they? do you ride just for pleasure or do you do shows/competitions? our daughter has a couple of friends who do jumping competitions and they travel all over the country and of course have to take their horses with them. I had a horse when i was growing up, but just rode for pleasure. i had to sell her when i went away for college. that was very sad for me. have a great weekend!
