Diddlyi Irish Dance and Music

I am a mother of two children, 5 and 7 years. Since very little, especially the smallest, I love the Irish dance. I started in it for them, I,m 40 years and I have just reviewed 3 degrees a week ago with very good result. The fact is that I'm from Barcelona, and here there are no schools, no teachers, no tradition ... I want to teach but now I'm not getting started with a small child ... How are the first class? someone help me? thank you very much !!!!!!!

!Hola Julia! Its great to see that Irish dance has reached even the Basque country! If you have no teachers but want to learn, I'd suggest the DVD's by Olive Hurley (look on www.olivehurley.com - she has teaching DVD's for soft & heavy shoes. You could also look on the RTME (Registered Teachers Mainland Europe - they're An Coimisiun's representatives in Europe) & see if anyone is running a workshop you & your children could get to. You can also look on www.worldirishdance.com - thats WIDA's website, they're another Irish Dance organisation who run alot of dance events in Europe - they're very friendly, well organised, & may also have a workshop or two you can get to.
Hope this helps,
Vicky

Thanks Vicky, I have three dvd's Olive .. I learned a lot with them, are great. Also took me to a workshop this July with Joanne Doyle, but not as work well with them because being small its psychomotricity is not yet fully formed. For example ... should start with only soft shoe (though my son wants to be small and Flatley wants hard:-P) by the basic reel slowly? that's what I have lost more ... If you start with 123 or Sevens ... or directly with a reel ....

A hug from Barcelona! (I'm from Catalonia but we are next to the Basque Country :-))))))

Hola Julia!
I know how you feel. When I started dancing there were no teachers in my area either, just hobby groups which more or less teaching themselves. I had been in such a group before I joined a real school and had learned things wrong. After I joined a school I had to relearn alot and get rid of bad habits.
So for the beginning I would suggest to start with softshoe: with 123´s then Sevens than starting with Beginners reel ( softshoe) and the other basic softshoe dances ( see Olive Hurley´s dvd Vol. 1) before you start hard shoe.
Ah, I see you are going to the workshop in July. I will be there too! You going for the whole week, or just a few days? Well, for your kids it might be a bit too much such a workshop. I think there will be some kids but most of them might be a bit older than yours.
Hope I could help you a bit,
Andrea

Hi Andrea! Look, I'll go only three days because I think there are many days for them. I speak with Joanne before leaving this workshop and told me that it would be nice. We will return to writing. In this workshop for first grade girls had very little, I do not think we came to five years ...

On the classes I had spent a little like you, but it was the group that we have turned to learn, this has been good and that was thanks to Betlem in April and October, Video filmed with which We have learned well and now extricate three degrees. I also took off errors, and that's why I do not want my children to grow up with them, so I want to teach them well ...

Thank you for your message! a Hug!!!!!!!!
