My TC says 3 or 4 inches above the knee

I think it depends on the person, their shape, size, etc. For me, my skirt (my school wears skirts in my division), it comes up way past my knee, and I don't particually mind that. But for a dress, the length has to be 3cm above the knee.

I believe An Com officially states that the skirt shouldn't be more than 3,5 (or 4, not sure anymore) inches above the knee (12cm). Personally I don't think they should be shorter than that, it's good that the judge can see your legs properly, but there's no point in continuously showing off your kickpants. I agree with Irish dancing queen, it depends on your heigth, shape, size and preference, but there's no need to go shorter.

Hi! Oh, I thought it was 3cm. Whoops. Thanks for clearing that up. Like I said, I don't mind, but if you're going to have it short, maybe wear stockings.

I think knee length or right above is good. You can still dance, the judges can see your legs...there's no reason to wear a super-short dress.

I think too short adds to the hole argument of how makeup and fancy dresses make up alot of the final score. I mean, what on earth are you trying to show at a feis? I really think it should be no more than 3-5 inches above the knee. But for taller people like me, 3 inches is a lot more on shorter people than it is on taller ones. So I agree that it depends on the person.

mmmm!!!! I am just getting my first dress and the dress maker said "about 2 inches above the knee"

I've always had my dresses about 3inchs above, anymore and I'd feel a bit too exposed and I've placed first in a number of comps in my time. Enough to show your knees so the judges can see how straight you're holding yourself, don't forget a number of the dance "moves" require the knees to be clued together, so I find it useful to show that you can do it. I had to do a display recently and the dresses were a bit shorter than I'm used to, thankfully I'd quite heavy black tights! Noone needs to see my backside that closely!
