Diddlyi welcomes Ashley Smith, our fifth super talented Dance Master, to our team to help you dance your best. We want you all to get to know our newest Dance Master because she’s a great person on and off and the stage floor. Enjoy our Q&A with Ashley, and stay tuned as we’ll be rolling out her workshop this summer and you’re going to love it! What’s the best place in the world you have performed? The best performance I ever [performed] was definitely dancing during the half time show for the Boston Celtics. I was a young girl and I remember running onto the court and looking around at thousands of people in the stands. I knew I wanted to perform again for a huge crowed. It was so exciting. What’s the best Irish dance accessory? I think the best accessory for a dancer is gaffers tape. It is even better then duck tap. Put a little bit on the toe and heel of your hard shoe and I promise you, you will never slip! What’s your best fitness tip for Irish dancers? The best fitness tip I can give to a dancer is to practice your dance routine to the fullest every time. Whether you have one step or three, dancing full out all the time is the best way to build stamina and to gain muscle memory. What’s the best advice you can give dancers about achieving goals? The best advice I have for all dancers ...

Diddlyi is delighted to welcome Ashley Smith to our team of brilliant Dance Masters. Ashley joins the ranks of Riverdance’s Paula Goulding, Shane McAvinchey, and Nicola Byrne and Heartbeat of Home‘s Ciara Sexton. Get excited as we’ll be rolling out Ashley’s workshops this summer. Ashley was born in Boston, Massachusetts but shortly after moved with her family to the suburbs. Growing up in a small town, she always dreamed of someday moving back to the big city. At a young age of three, she began taking Irish dance lessons from her father and mother, Michael and Noreen Smith: owners of the Smith-Houlihan Irish Dance Academy. After years of training and attending many competitive Irish Dancing competitions, Ashley was crowned the World Irish Step Dancing Champion in Belfast, Ireland, in 2004, at that time, being the youngest American female ever to win the world title. Ashley went on to win two more gold world medals in 2005 and her last in 2009, currently she is the only North American female to hold three world championship titles. Ashley was also named one of the Top Irish Americans in 2004. After completing her local high school education, Ashley moved to New York in 2006 where she attended Manhattanville College for four years: graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in both dance and theatre. Upon moving to New York, she continued to grow in all dance forms such as Ballet, Modern, Jazz, Musical Theatre Dance and Tap. In 2009 Ashley auditioned for ...

We’ve come a long way since launching as a social network back in 2007. And probably the biggest step we made was re-launching two years ago as the only place online that you could take Workshops with the world’s best Irish dancers. Since then, 1000s have tried the service and we now have enough Workshop content on the site to keep any dancer busy for a long time. But we are not stopping there! We have huge plans to make Diddlyi better and better, including delivering much more video content to our members. To do this, we are looking for a Freelance Video Editor to join our team. You could be located anywhere in the world and you’ll be working in your own time. We just insist that you are a dab hand with video editing (we use Final Cut Pro), be quality and detailed oriented (we’d like to see your portfolio), know what good design is and you must be easy to work with. It’s a plus if you are a dancer as it could make the editing process easier, but not altogether necessary. You’ll get used to how things are set up. We are also looking for a Freelance Web Designer to work from time to time on updating Diddlyi.com and creating marketing emails. To do this job you should know all about writing code that will work in all email clients, be quality and detailed oriented (we’d like to see your portfolio), be creative and able to ...

Irish dancers around the world have begun auditioning online for a new Irish dance show, which is set to take place in Ireland this summer. The new show, in association with Riverdance, will premier at The Helix in Dublin and continue on a short tour of Ireland this August. Take The Floor, directed and produced by former Riverdance stars Shane McAvinchey & Paula Goulding will begin its rehearsal period on July 30th, just ten days before the premiere show. The production boasts the largest Irish dance show with a cast of 60 of the top Irish dancers and aspiring professionals including participants from countries such as Japan, Russia, USA, Mexico, Australia, Romania and Portugal. Shane, who runs his own Irish dance schools in Germany, Poland, Spain and Russia says, “The vast international flavour of the show makes it truly unique. We staged the first Take The Floor project last year in Dublin and it was amazing to see an Irish dance show with such a diverse range of nationalities. Over 15 countries were represented among the dancers.” Chosen cast members will arrive in Dublin the end of July and with only 10 days to the opening night will learn and rehearse a full scale production to be ready for its unveiling at 8pm on August 9th! Following the Dublin premiere the cast will proceed on a short tour of Ireland with shows taking place at Limerick’s Universtity Concert Hall on August 11th and in Derry’s Millenium Forum on August 13th ...

Diddlyi has four inspiring and super talented Dance Masters as part of our team helping you to dance your best. We want you all to get to know each of our Dance Masters a little better because they are great people on and off the stage floor. Next up is Shane McAvinchey of Riverdance who teaches our Improve Your Dancing and Hard Shoe Bootcamp workshops. What’s the best place in the world you have performed? I have been so lucky to have had the opportunity to perform in really amazing and diverse places all around the world. With so many of them having their own charm, it is pretty difficult to choose one. There are a few places that really stand out such as dancing in Israel, Kuwait, Japan, China, Dubai and Egypt. One spectacular moment I had with Riverdance was dancing with the ancient Egyptian pyramids lit up behind us as a backdrop. I remember turning during the dance and seeing the pyramids in front of my eyes with the Riverdance music blaring and just thinking that this was a moment I will remember for life. I have done some interesting TV shows during the years around the world too and met some interesting people and celebrities. One TV show was filmed in Germany and was hosted by José Carreras with special guest opera superstar Mr. Pavorotti himself. It was amazing seeing this guy in real life, being back stage with him and then hearing him sing live. Accompanying the Irish president on a state visit to Luxembourg was also an amazing experience! Irish dance ...
